Dedications to Van

Included is a poem dedicated to Van, entitled "Gone to Paint God's Landscapes", his obituary his mother had published in the Waxahachie Daily Light and his obituary I had published in "This Week In Texas". There are also the lyrics to a song I've dedicated to his memory (Shawn Colvin's "Someone Like You" from the "One Fine Day" soundtrack).

Van was fascinated with angels and he collected anything he could about them, including chimes, pictures, and figurines. I've included an angel next to the poem dedicated to him.

Galleries of Van's Art

Van was a prolific painter, working in almost every conceivable medium, including oils, acrylics, pastels, water colors, pencils, inks, and charcoal. His favorite theme was painting landscapes but he was equally talented in portraits, still settings, and a variety of other topics. Enter the gallery to see what a gifted artist he was.

A Collection of Van's Poems

Van creative gifts extended beyond his artistic abilities. Enter this site to read a selection of his poetry, several of which were read at his funeral.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there.
I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond's glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry:
I am not there.
I did not die.
